Perpetual usage vs updates and support period

DotwebApps standard commercial software uses a licensing model that separates the software usage license from the included updates and support period.
The standard model is:
One-time perpetual software usage license
+ one year of updates and support
These are related, but they are not the same entitlement.
Perpetual software usage #
A valid purchased DotwebApps software usage license does not automatically expire after one year.
Under the applicable license terms, the customer may continue using the licensed software even after the included updates and support period has ended, provided the software license itself remains otherwise valid.
This is why standard DotwebApps software should not be described as an annual rental license unless a specific product explicitly uses a different subscription model.
Updates and support period #
The standard commercial software purchase normally includes one year of updates and support.
After that included period ends, continued access to updates or support may require renewal where applicable. Availability and terms of renewal can vary by product or purchase, so renewal pricing or conditions should not be assumed.
Expiration of the updates/support period does not by itself terminate an otherwise valid perpetual software usage license.
Membership subscriptions are separate #
DotwebApps memberships and software licenses are separate concepts.
A Pro Annual membership is an annual recurring membership, but renewing that membership does not convert separately purchased DotwebApps software into an annual rental license.
A Pro Lifetime membership is a lifetime membership with no recurring membership fee, but it does not grant unlimited software licenses or unlimited product rights.
Membership benefits may affect the price of eligible DotwebApps software products. They do not change the underlying rights, activation limits, or restrictions of the software license purchased for an individual product.
What perpetual usage does not mean #
A perpetual software usage license should not be interpreted as a promise of:
- lifetime software updates
- lifetime technical support
- guaranteed future compatibility
- unlimited production activations
- rights beyond the purchased license tier
Unless a specific product explicitly states otherwise, those benefits should not be assumed.
