Uploading and installing software

Installation steps differ between DotwebApps products. This article provides a safe general overview for a typical PHP/MySQL web application; it does not replace the installation guide supplied with the specific product you purchased.

Before you upload the software #

Prepare the installation carefully:

1. Review the product’s System Requirements and Installation documentation.
2. Confirm that the hosting or server environment meets those requirements.
3. If you are installing into, replacing, or upgrading an existing environment, create appropriate backups before making changes.
4. Download the correct product package from the DotwebApps account associated with your purchase. See Where to find downloads if needed.
5. Keep the original package and applicable license information secure.

General installation flow #

For a typical PHP/MySQL DotwebApps web application, installation may involve the following steps:

1. Upload and extract the application files to the intended web location.
2. Prepare a compatible database if the product requires one.
3. Configure the application’s database and other required environment settings using the method documented for that product.
4. Apply only the file or directory permissions required by the product documentation.
5. Configure the intended domain and HTTPS/SSL for production use.
6. Run the product-specific installation or setup process where applicable.
7. Activate the software license where the product requires activation. See How to activate software for general licensing guidance.
8. Complete the post-installation checks described for that product.

The actual file structure, configuration method, installer workflow, and setup sequence can differ by product. Do not assume a universal installer URL, configuration filename, command, or default credential.

Keep installation files and credentials secure #

During installation:

• do not place license keys, passwords, database credentials, or other secrets in publicly accessible locations
• do not leave backup archives or installation packages publicly downloadable
• use HTTPS for the production site
• remove or secure temporary installation resources when the product documentation instructs you to do so
• protect database and hosting credentials from public screenshots, forum posts, or support messages

If the installation does not complete #

Check the product’s documented requirements and installation steps first. Useful things to verify include whether the hosting environment matches the required PHP/database setup, whether the database connection has been configured correctly, whether required files were uploaded completely, and whether the domain/HTTPS setup is ready.

If the problem remains unresolved, contact DotwebApps support with the relevant product, error message, and non-secret environment details needed to investigate. Never send passwords, private keys, API secrets, database passwords, or unrelated credentials.
